What $2,400 rents in Chicago right now

Here’s what you can get in Lincoln Park, Uptown, River West, and more

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a regular column exploring what you can rent or buy for a set dollar amount in different neighborhoods. Today we are looking at Chicago apartments renting around $2,400 per month. Vote for your favorite below.

Lincoln Park

VHT Studios/Keller Williams

Let’s start things off with this apartment, located at the western edge of the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom second-floor walk-up has lots of natural light, hardwood flooring, and crown moldings. The large master bedroom has two closets and a master bath with a jetted tub and dual vanities. There’s also a rear porch. Rent it for $2,400 per month.

Uptown

Positive Image/Quest Realty Group

Near Uptown’s Argyle Red Line stop—and not far from the lakefront—$2,425 gets you this newer construction apartment with two bedrooms, two full baths, and a balcony. Located on the third floor of an elevator building along Broadway, the residence includes large windows, espresso-stained hardwood floors, in-unit laundry, and a kitchen with quartz counters, stainless appliance, and a marble backsplash.

River West

Craigslist

For $2,450, rent this spacious two-bedroom timber loft in River West. Located in the historic J.P. Smith Shoe Company building at the corner of Sangamon and Huron, the unit sports exposed brick walls, wood ceilings, and oversized factory-style windows. Building amenities include a fitness center and a communal rooftop deck with skyline views of downtown Chicago.

South Loop

820 South Michigan

This newly completed two-bed, two-bath apartment is located in Michigan Avenue’s former Johnson Publishing Building. Once home to Ebony and Jet magazines, the South Loop landmark was recently rehabbed into rental units and amenities including a fitness center and rooftop deck. This particular unit sports plank flooring, soft-close cabinetry, and stainless-steel appliances. It rents for $2,495.

Gold Coast

Coldwell Banker Residential

Though $2,400 may not necessarily get you a ton of space in Chicago’s pricy Gold Coast, it does rent this sharp-looking single-bedroom on the 26th floor of the Newberry Plaza building. Standout features include bamboo floors, an updated kitchen with white marble counters, and impressive views of the city and lake. There’s even a private balcony to soak up the vistas.
