No Bones is close to opening in Chicago

Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for vegans who often feel uncomfortable during family dinners with turkeys served as the centerpiece of their meals. But here’s good news for the meat- and dairy-free set in Chicago: No Bones Beach Club, a vegan restaurant and bar that channels island vibes will soon open in Wicker Park, near the Milwaukee/North/Damen intersection. It’s a tropical oasis with dishes like parsnip and veggie cakes that taste like crab, huevos rancheros-style tofu scrambles for brunch, and a full bar with Mai Tais and more.

Owner MacKenzie DeVito opened her first restaurant three years ago in Seattle. She’s also opened a Portland location. In Chicago, there’s room for about 50 seats. In addition, it has bamboo stools and high-top tables with about 22 low stools.

The Chicago location will be casual service, DeVito said. There’s plenty of mermaids, surfboards, and what DeVito calls a parrot room. She’s excited about the gold disco balls.

Tour the space below. DeVito hasn’t revealed the opening date, but it should happen soon at 1943 W. North Avenue inside the former Santullo’s Eatery space.
