Get the lowdown on Landmark Development’s massive Near South Side project
As one of the single largest and most ambitious development proposals in Chicago’s history, One Central would transform the southern edge of downtown across from Soldier Field and the Museum Campus by building over an existing 34-acre railyard.
The $20 billion project from Wisconsin-based Landmark Development would support up to a dozen mixed-use skyscrapers, a pedestrian bridge over Lake Shore Drive, and a transit hub serving Metra, CTA, and Amtrak trains plus a new “Chi-Line” transitway running along the sunken busway between Millennium Park and McCormick Place.
If financing can be secured and officials sign off on the plan, Landmark wants to start work on the transit center as early as 2020 and anticipates a three-year construction. The full One Central development is expected to take more than a decade to complete.
