Two are currently open in the Loop
Amazon said it plans to open another cashierless convenience store in the Illinois Center in downtown Chicago by next year, according to the Chicago Tribune. This is the fourth store location announced in the city since last month.
The 2,000-square-foot store is expected to open within the mixed-use development east of Michigan Avenue and south of the Chicago River. The two Amazon Go stores open in Chicago are located within the Loop and another will be opening in near the Ogilvie Transportation Center, the Tribune reported.
The stores sell items for people on-the-go or quick lunches such as packaged sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks. Cameras and sensors track what customers pick up and charge their Amazon accounts when they leave the store.
On Tuesday, the most recent Amazon Go store opened in San Francisco’s Financial District. Previously, Bloomberg reported that the tech giant has plans to open 3,000 Amazon Go stores nationwide by 2021.
