About Last Knife opens Friday inside the new Hotel Julian

About Last Knife chef Dan Weiland promised that his new steakhouse would be different from other Chicago meccas of meat. The 68-seat steakhouse opens Friday inside the new Hotel Julian near Millennium Park. While steak lovers could find more cuts at meat at other restaurants, the menu does feature unique items like steak Wellington by the slice.

Weiland, who most recently ran the kitchen at West Town brewpub Forbidden Root, also worked at West Loop restaurants Blackbird and Avec. It’s a hotel restaurant, so that means it serves breakfast with offerings like hangar steak and eggs. A news release also touts that any menu item can be made to go. That complements grab-and-go offerings like trendy mason jar salads and veggie and breakfast wraps.

There are four cuts of meats in addition to the steak Wellington. Don’t expect massive slabs, as the largest cut is a 16-ounce T-bone. A bevy of complementary sauces are available to go with the steaks. The menu obviously includes the familiar potatoes, mushrooms, and Brussels sprout options. Fried pickled giardiniera and charred beef tartare are more unusual sides.

There’s also a bar pouring 11 house cocktails. Looks like the opening beer bottle selection has Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, too. Check out the menus below. About Last Knife opens on Friday at the Hotel Julian.
