A ‘Sex and the City’ Pop-Up Bar Will Debut on Valentine’s Day in Chicago

“Sex and the City” actresses Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker won’t be at this pop-up.

Ironside Bar in River North will serve martinis named for the characters

Valentine’s Day will provide the opening date for a new Sex and the City pop-up at Ironside Bar and Galley in River North. The bar’s decked out to celebrate the HBO TV show (based on a Candace Bushnell book) that debuted in 1998 and starred actress Sarah Jessica Parker as journalist Carrie Bradshaw. Bradshaw was among four friends on the show and each of them has a drink named after them at the pop-up. This way, customers can prove to their friends without a doubt that they’re really a “Miranda,” “Charlotte,” or “Samantha” by ordering the corresponding martini.

The pop-up’s officially called Cosmo Carrie’s and goes from Thursday through March 20 at Ironside, 546 N. Wells Street. As singles crowd bars on Valentine’s Day, the theme made sense to Ironside’s owners. The bar’s also hosted a Beverly Hills, 90210 pop-up. The SATC, like the 90210 pop-up, is an unofficial event.

The show chronicled the dating and sex lives of a group of women living in New York and their honest and sometimes vulgar conversation. There’s a hint of that humor (see the top right corner of the drink list) on the menu which is full of Easter Eggs. There’s the four martinis named after the four main characters. “The Carrie” cocktail is a cosmopolitan. Supporting characters like Mr. Big, Aiden, and Skipper get their own drinks. The drink list consists of 11 specialty cocktails just for the pop-up.

The interiors have the familiar character pop-outs for Instagram photos, vintage mirrors, and other touches. Expect to see a lot of pink. Cosplay is encouraged. The pop-up starts on Thursday and will run from 6 p.m. to midnight on Wednesdays through Saturdays until March 20. Read the menus below.
